FAQ: How Audiolog Works
This page explains the core flow in Audiolog: recording, transcription, voice metrics, privacy behavior, and data control.
Recording & Transcript
How do I create a journal entry?
Start a recording in Audiolog, speak naturally, then stop recording. The app converts your speech to text and saves the entry with timestamp metadata.
What permissions does Audiolog need?
Audiolog may request microphone and speech recognition permissions so voice recording and transcription features can work.
Voice Metrics
What voice metrics are used?
Audiolog uses aggregate metrics such as:
- Energy
- Pauses (count and duration patterns)
- Speech activity ratio
- Pitch variability (when enough voiced frames are available)
- Quality score
How are insights generated?
Insights are generated by comparing your current recording metrics to your own recent baseline. Audiolog is designed to detect change over time for the same user, not compare users to other users.
Does Audiolog diagnose mood or mental health conditions?
No. Insights are observational and non-diagnostic. They describe speaking-pattern changes, not medical or psychological diagnoses.
Privacy
Is my data uploaded to Audiolog cloud servers?
Audiolog is designed as a local-first app. Diary entries and aggregate metric summaries are intended to remain on your device by default.
Does Audiolog store raw audio files for metrics?
The current design intent is to avoid persisting raw audio files for the metrics feature and use transcript text plus aggregate metric values.
Data Control & Export
Can I edit or delete entries?
Yes. You can manage your entries in-app, including editing or deleting content.
Can I export my journal data?
Yes. Audiolog supports exporting your journal data when you choose.
